| What's an SST? |
A special service tool. Check out - http://toyota.spx.com/
With shipping, tax, and everything, the SST cost $40.24. SPX Corporation provided very good service and shipped the tool promptly. SPX accepts major credit cards.

Removing the cap on the filter housing is a bear! You must use the SST. A standard oil filter wrench will not work and will strip the housing. When you reinstall the housing, oil the gasket and the housing threads. |

I have a suggestion for Toyota: Form the housing to accept a 3/8" drive and eliminate the need for an SST. Why require a special tool to remove the housing? I can see only two reasons: (1) discourage people from performing their own maintenence and (2) increase sales for high profit margin tools. |

| Notice the gasket on the drain plug | ![]() This is not a reusable gasket. It's paper and aluminum, designed for one-time use. |
